Blog Post: The Symptoms You Think Are “Normal”… But Aren’t

When life is full with work, family, responsibilities and the never-ending list of things you’re supposed to stay on top of, it’s easy to overlook the little signals your body sends. You push through the afternoon slump. You chalk up the bloating after meals to “just how your stomach is.” You assume the sleepless nights are stress, the mood swings are hormonal, the tension in your shoulders is from sleeping funny… and you keep going.

Honestly I get it! Most people have never been shown to take these symptoms seriously, or to see them as part of the self-care their body genuinely needs and deserves. Symptoms just become the “new normal.”

But here’s the thing: your body doesn’t create symptoms for no reason.

Every ache, dip in energy, mystery symptom or shift in mood is communication. They’re whispers and nudges from your body that are pointing you to look a little deeper.

You’re not supposed to:

· be exhausted every afternoon
· feel aches and pains all the time for no reason
· feel wired and tired at the same time
· live with skin rashes that keeps flaring up
· accept that your brain is always a little fuzzy
· power through even though you never seem to get a good night’s sleep

These might be common, but they’re not actually normal.

Let’s walk through what these signals can really mean, and how you can start making sense of what your body has probably been trying to tell you for a very long time.

Most of us adapt so quickly to symptoms that we barely register them anymore. I hear this all the time:

“I’ve always been tired like this.”
“My digestion has never been great.”
“I just have a sensitive system.”
“It’s just part of getting older.”
“It’s perimenopause – not much I can do about it.”

But when I sit with someone and hear more details of their personal story, the picture always becomes clearer. These symptoms didn’t show up out of nowhere. They built gradually, often so slowly that they didn’t even realize how much the symptoms were affecting them until they were given a chance to stop and really reflect.

Your body isn’t trying to inconvenience you. It’s just trying to ask for your help.

The “New Normal” You’ve Been Living With

Let’s talk about some of the most common “everyday” symptoms that people shrug off, and why they deserve a closer look.

Afternoon energy crashes

This could be because your blood sugar is swinging too much. You might need to spread out the amount of healthy glucose you take in. But it could also be that your adrenals are overextended, your lacking some key nutrients, or maybe you’ve eaten foods that aren’t ideal at this time of the day. Spoiler alert – it rarely means you need to add more protein.

Bloating or fatigue after meals

Bloating or fatigue after meals doesn’t mean your digestion is broken. It often shows up when your digestive juices are running low, you’re eating in a rushed or stressed state, you’ve eaten the wrong food at the time, or you’ve eaten foods that require so much effort to break down that your body has to pull energy away from everything else.

Restless or Poor Sleep

Poor sleep isn’t something you just have to live with. While poor sleep is very common these days, often it comes down to a handful of basics. Nutrient deficiencies (especially minerals), adrenal fatigue, heavy metal toxicity, an overworked liver, pathogens, or eating the wrong types of foods in the evening. Once those are addressed, getting a good night’s sleep usually becomes much easier.

Aches, mystery pains or tension headaches

Your muscles respond not only to being used in various ways, but also to your internal environment. Mineral imbalances, dehydration, stress, being out of alignment with your spirit, and even certain foods, ingredients or chemicals in your environment can play a role.

Mood swings or irritability

This can often be tied to dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, no time for self-care, needing to address an issue that you’re avoiding, a lack of healthy glucose for your body to use for energy, an overburdened liver, or adrenal fatigue.

Brain fog or forgetfulness

Your brain loves stability including steady minerals, steady hydration, steady blood sugar. When one of those is off, mental clarity is usually the first to go. But this can also be a symptom related to pathogens in the body, heavy metal toxicity, food sensitivities, chemical sensitivities and even a lack of brain boosting nutrients.

Skin breakouts or dryness

This is often a sign of the body trying to move out what the liver and lymph system can no longer keep up with.

It’s important to understand that your body isn’t trying to annoy you with these symptoms. They’re small messages, and once you take them seriously and give yourself some needed self-care, the path to finding balance again becomes much clearer.

The Subtle Symptoms Most People Brush Off

This isn’t about fear or urgency. Your body is incredibly resilient. It adapts, compensates, reroutes, and does everything it can to keep you going.

But ignoring symptoms usually means they start to:

  • cluster

  • show up more frequently

  • intensify during times of stress

  • negatively affect your mood and patience

  • drain your energy

  • make digestion even more reactive

It’s like driving with warning lights on the dashboard. You can maybe even carry on for longer than you expect, but eventually the signs can’t be ignored.

What Happens When These Signals Are Ignored

In my practice, the real work starts when we stop isolating symptoms and start looking them as ‘pieces of a puzzle’, or ‘dots to be connected’ so we can uncover the story behind them.

I look at:

  • what your energy is doing throughout the day

  • how you digest different types of foods

  • your sleep patterns

  • your emotional stress load

  • what you do to take care of yourself

  • past illnesses or infections

  • the personal care and cleaning products you use

  • the foods you rely on most

  • the real reason you might have cravings for certain foods

  • how your body responds to hydration and minerals

  • the environments you spend the most time in

All of this paints a much clearer picture of why your symptoms are showing up and what your body is really asking for.

Healing isn’t about forcing your body to stop talking.
It’s about supporting it so it rarely has to nudge you for your attention.

How I Look at These Symptoms Differently

If you’ve been living with symptoms for years, it can be hard to imagine what it’s like to feel light, clear, and energized again. But your body hasn’t forgotten how to get there. It just needs someone to pay attention to its signals and help connect the dots.
